June 6th – Vietnamese Elderly Day – is an occasion for all of us to pause, look deeply into the eyes that have accompanied a lifetime, and express our gratitude to the elderly with the most meaningful actions.
The Origin and Significance of Vietnamese Elderly Day
On June 6, 1941, in his article “Kính cáo đồng bào” (A Respectful Appeal to Compatriots), President Ho Chi Minh advised that: “The elderly are a priceless treasure of the nation and the State.” It is based on this immense significance that the 6th of June annually was designated as the Vietnamese Elderly Day.
This day is not only a time for veneration but also a profound reminder that the elderly should not be forgotten in the rush of modern life. They deserve attention, care, and gratitude – not just through words, but through concrete actions.
